Insurance Defense Legal Secretary

Location: St. Louis, Missouri
Salary: Starting at $50,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Insurance Defense Legal Secretary to join our growing litigation team in St. Louis. The ideal candidate will provide high-level administrative and legal support to attorneys handling insurance defense matters and will play a critical role in maintaining efficient case management and client service.

This position is best suited for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has strong organizational skills, and possesses prior experience supporting litigation attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, revise, and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Maintain attorney calendars, schedule hearings, depositions, mediations, and client meetings.
  • File documents electronically in Missouri state and federal courts.
  • Manage case files, litigation deadlines, and document organization.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, and vendors.
  • Assist with discovery preparation, document production, and exhibit organization.
  • Prepare trial notebooks, hearing binders, and mediation materials.
  • Monitor docket activity and ensure compliance with court deadlines.
  • Handle attorney time entry, expense reports, and billing support as needed.
  • Provide general administrative support to attorneys and the litigation team.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of legal secretarial or litigation support experience, preferably in insurance defense or civil litigation.
  • Knowledge of Missouri court filing procedures and litigation processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong typing, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to client service.

Preferred

  • Experience with insurance defense litigation.
  • Familiarity with state and federal e-filing systems.
  • Knowledge of legal case management and document management software.
  • Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a busy litigation practice.
